On 21 February 1992, the United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 743 (1992) and established the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR). The Council confirmed that UNPROFOR should be an interim arrangement to create the conditions of peace and security required for the negotiation of an overall settlement of the Yugoslav crisis. Yasushi Akashi is the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Chief of Mission. The headquarters of UNPROFOR is in Zagreb, Croatia.
