To mark World Environment Day (5 June) the UN Mission in South Sudan launched an Umuganda Camp Cleanliness Campaign to make the Mission's bases and their surroundings cleaner, greener and healthier. The effort was organized by the Rwandan military and police components of UNMISS and supported by the larger community of peacekeepers serving in South Sudan.
"Umuganda" - "Shared work" in Kinyarwanda - is a practice stemming from the Rwandan culture of cooperation to accomplish large tasks.
